This blog is called ‘Loonie Sue’ – why?
Well, Sue is my name so that’s simple enough.
And this blog is about money, so that’s the Loonie part. But Loonie is meant to convey a bit more than that…
- I follow (too) many personal finance blogs, but most are American. I wanted something in the name of this blog to convey that it was written from a Canadian perspective. Loonies are definitely a Canadian thing.
- Thinking about personal finance from a small perspective (one loonie at a time) rather than from a perspective that might seem too distant or unattainable (think any name that contains the word ‘millions’ or ‘retirement’ or whatever) reinforces that anyone can take steps to improve their finances. Young or old, working or retired, poor or wealthy, anyone can benefit from saving a loonie here and there.
- These days, I think and talk about money so much that those around me think I’ve gone a little loony. Or they think I’m driving them loony. Or both.
- Generally speaking, I have a bit of a different, loony personality. This blog name acknowledges that.
I also wanted to keep the name relatively simple – just 2 or 3 words.
So, there you have it. Do I LOOOOOVE the name? I’d be lying if I said I did. But I do like it, and I think it works. And besides, from the time I decided to go ahead with this blog until the day of my birthday (I was determined that my first post would be on my birthday), I only had a couple of days. And knowing ABSOLUTELY nothing about blogs or how to create one or whatever, I didn’t have a ton of time to waste trying to come up with the perfect name. So Loonie Sue it is…
